The University of Florida Undergraduate Mock Trial Team—known as the LitiGators—is a nationally competitive program where students sharpen their advocacy skills in a fast-paced, courtroom setting. Competing under the American Mock Trial Association (AMTA), our teams go head-to-head with top universities across the country.

Each team consists of 6–10 students who take on the roles of attorneys and witnesses, mastering case strategy, legal procedure, and courtroom etiquette. Along the way, members build skills that extend far beyond the courtroom—critical thinking, persuasive speaking, and the ability to construct and deliver clear, compelling arguments on demand.

While many LitiGators pursue law school, the experience prepares students for success in any field where communication, confidence, and quick thinking matter.

Since our founding in 2007, the LitiGators have quickly earned national recognition in the mock trial community. In recent seasons, the team has secured top finishes and a growing list of individual awards at invitationals across the Southeast, including:

  • Second place at the Carolina Classic Invitational
  • First place at Tobacco Road

The program continues to excel in postseason competition. At Regionals and the Opening Round Championship Series, the LitiGators captured both first- and second-place finishes—advancing two teams to the National Championship.

Today, UF Mock Trial ranks among the top 25 programs in the nation, reflecting a sustained commitment to excellence, teamwork, and competitive success.

Mock Trial is a competitive undergraduate organization wherein students compete all across the southeast in tournaments called “mock trials”. These mock trials are designed to simulate a real courtroom experience with students taking on the roles of attorneys and witnesses.

Some of the most notable places the team has traveled to include: Nashville and Memphis Tennessee, Greenville and Spartanburg  South Carolina, Tallahassee, Durham in North Carolina, Atlanta, Washington, D.C., and more.

Yes! You do not need any prior experience to join the team. The program will teach you everything you need to know, so do not worry if you do not have mock trial experience. In fact, over 80% of our team members did not have mock trial experience before joining the team.
